Profile
Being creative is fundamental to who I am, always has been.
It is creativity that drives me; it entices me to play, experiment and learn from both my mistakes and successes. It makes me strive for knowledge, and aim for excellence. It helps the artist in me to see, feel and interpret.
Being a multi-disciplined artist has great benefits to the way I work. My style is contemporary when using mixed media, here my artwork is energetic, colourful, and multilayered. I revel in the freedom that mixed media provides, it allows for an intuitive and spontaneous rendering of the subject. Conversely, when using pastels or gouache I approach the subject in a realist manner, enjoying the discipline of observation, striving to capture the essence of a scene.
I thoroughly enjoy the creative process, it is as rewarding to me as a final artwork that I am proud of. Teaching enables me to share my knowledge about the practicalities of a particular medium, encourage skill building, risk taking, and helping others to develop confidence their own creative abilities. Seeing the transformation of strangers to an art course into a group of friends who encourage, support and genuinely care for one another has to be the biggest blessing for me.
On a final note, I know that Creativity will always be with me. In a busy world it keeps me sane and that’s important. More importantly it makes me happy.
